Summer- now's my chance?

There's this guy I like. We're friends, I suppose not super close friends, but we do text a lot and hang at social events. We just finished our sophomore year, he had a girlfriend nearly the whole time, but they broke up a week or two before school ended. The thing is we both have summer houses on a lake, and in all irony, he actually lives just around the corner. Last time we were both up, he told me he was going to go shoot hoops at one of the rec. areas, and invited me along. I was only able to nip down for a few minutes, where we hugged but i had to dash. I really, really do like this guy, but I feel like he's too good for me. We're both straight A students but he's the totally glorious jock type. I really want this to happen. Please help
